This unique truss bridge crosses the Neosho River at an abandoned generating station near Parsons.
Built of at least a relocated main span in 1953, this bridge has a very clouded history.
This bridge sits on a removed spur from the Springfield, Missouri-Wichita, Kansas mainline. It appears that this main truss span, which is composed of a 6-panel, pin connected Pratt Through Truss, was relocated from another location prior to construction.
The original construction had deck girder spans and timber trestle approaches. However, the timber spans were removed around 2014 due to unknown reasons.
The author is not sure where the span could have come from or a certain build date on it. However, the author estimates the build date of this truss span to be ca. 1905.
Built in 1953, the bridge rests on concrete and steel pile substructures. In response, the bridge is in very good condition.
Today, much of the Neosho generating station has been removed. At some point, the bridge was converted to a road use bridge.
The author has ranked this bridge as being moderately significant, due to the relocated truss piece.
The photo above is an overview. Reportedly, the area is now guarded, although at the time of the authors visit, there were no signs or fences.
